In 1984, Griggs Beer Distributors, Inc. was founded by the Wirtz family when it was awarded the franchise for Coors Beer in the Twin Cities area. The following year, Mark VII Sales, Inc. – the Stroh’s Beer distributor – was purchased, and together became known as Mark VII Distributors, Inc. Currently, Mark VII’s annual sales revenues to retail outlets are in excess of $66 million and represent beer and selected non-alcoholic products for a combination of thirty domestic and international breweries, importers, brokers and bottlers. The company’s warehouse is strategically located between Minneapolis and St. Paul. Its office and warehouse facilities are adjacent to those of another Wirtz Beverage Group house, Griggs Cooper & Company. Mark VII and Griggs, Cooper management and sales teams share market data relevant to new account openings, chain activity, credit concerns and legislative activities at the Minnesota State Capital.
